First day
Arrival in Reggio Emilia and accommodation in agritourism. Morning at leisure while strolling through Reggio Emilia city centre. Welcome lunch in the city centre tasting local specialties. In the afternoon, half day excursion with a local guide through Matilde di Canossa hills: the outskirts of Quattro Castella have many beautiful and fascinating sights to offer. After a pleasant trekking arrival at Bianello Castle for a guided visit, to discover the history of Matilde, who was the most representative female exponent of the European Middle Ages. Thanks to her mediation, the heir of Charles the Great begged forgiveness of the Pope. Dinner and overnight stay at the agritourism.
Second day
Breakfast at the agritourism. Between Cisa and Forbici Passes, the forest ridges separating Tuscany from Emilia gives way to a real mountain environment. Meeting at Pietra di Bismantova; trekking to the top of the rock, discovering its history and geology with an expert guide. Lunch at the rifugio with local specialties. In the afternoon, 2 hours E-bike excursion nearby the Pietra, scenic tour through surrounding streets and tracks. Dinner in the city centre of Reggio Emilia and overnight stay at the agritourism.
Third day
Breakfast at the agritourism. A day dedicated to visit wonderful private gardens close to Reggio Emilia. In the morning visit to a private garden of a passionate gardener’s devotion, and its lies in a historical context of great charm. Romantic, well-finished and modern, is divided in differente sections: from the English mixed border to the rose garden, from the natural garden to the vegetable one. Interesting in every season, you would have the chance even to see peacocks walking around peonies and roses in a really enchanting location. Lunch at leisure. In the afternoon, a real paradise of ancient roses and rare plants. A collector’s property, this park hosts a rose garden, with one hundred of ancient varieties, a wonderful wood, with high-growing trees and a selection of oaks and beeches and a little lake with different types of water lilies. Finally an area designates to an Italian garden, geometrically divided as it was in Renaissance criteria. Departure.
